Rosie's rough encounter

Small but mighty! Rosie came in for her recheck following a tousle with a brown snake.

A week ago her owners found her playing with a baby brown snake in the yard. She was carefully monitored in the hours following the incident, and when she started showing signs of envenomation was rushed to our hospital. After a quick assessment by Dr. Kiri it was determined she had been bitten, and treatment was immediately commenced. Despite requiring hospitalisation with fluids, oxygen and antivenom, Rosie made a quick recovery and has since been recuperating at home!

Just as important as seeking swift medical assistance, identifying the species of snake involved is crucial to effectively treat an envenomation case. Rosie's family's quick-thinking to bring the snake (already deceased from the encounter) along with her to the hospital helped us ID the exact species, and utilise the most effective treatment. Rosie has been incredibly brave throughout her stay with us and the following recovery, and we're so pleased to see her back to her happy self!
