Bruno beat Heartworm!

We have INCREDIBLE news to share!

In February Dr Kiri started treatment on Bruno, a Rottweiler from Iron Dog Rescue who tested positive for Heartworm. With the nature of the disease being often deadly and difficult to treat we knew there was a tough battle ahead. Bruno's treatment spanned 90 days, and involved daily medicating and several very risky but closely monitored injections.

Today we finally received the long awaited result: NEGATIVE! This process has not only been an incredible display of bravery by Bruno, but a true testament to Sue and Dr Kiri’s commitment to animal health and welfare. Bruno now has a bright future ahead of him!

Lastly, a word of caution to our community members. Heartworm is a growing threat in our area. Transmitted by bites from an infected mosquito, heartworm larvae settle into the heart, lungs and blood vessels to feed off their host. Untreated heartworm can result in lung disease, heart failure, organ damage and (unfortunately often) death. We strongly encourage ALL cat and dog owners to schedule your pet a heartworm vaccination, especially if they have never received a heartworm vaccination before.
